Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Toaster sweater in dotty sweatshirting

Toaster sweater in dotty sweatshirting

Trying to get all my makes blogged this year!

This is another toaster, I found I was wearing my two existing ones a lot and jumped this up my queue as I impulse bought the fabric to make an elastic delivery worth it. It's a lovely fleece backed sweatshirting. I've decided I love sweatshirting, I can't be done with the fiddlyness of jersey, but sweatshirting gives you some of the stretch without the hassle. And it's the cosiest. It comes in a few colours, and I'm definitely up for using it again. I bought from Koala Kreations but it's also available elsewhere. Oh, and it's organic.

I'm really pleased with the sewing on this, it's much tidier than the first version, where it's difficult to distinguish between the high and the the low hem. The second one I made wasn't much better, because jersey. But this is nice and tidy! I also put a bit of ribbon in the neck so I can tell what the back is without holding it up.

Anyway, factual details below as always

Pattern: Sew House Seven Toaster, version 2

Size: L

Fabric: organic fleece backed sweatshirting, the brand is Poppy. I used 1.5 metres and didn’t have much left.

Modifications: None

Mistakes: I’m not even sure I should class this as a mistake, but the body pieces are cut across grain, the grainline is supposed to run vertically. It’s fine because there’s enough ease for it not to have to stretch to the extent that that would make a difference, and I’m also not sure I would have fitted it into the 1.5 metres otherwise (pattern says you need 1.7 metres). I also forgot one line of straight stitching at the top of the vent (I did most of the seam with the overlocker stitch) so one of the vents is higher than the other. But they both look fine, so it would have to be a very observant person to notice that!

Not much more to say about this really!
