Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as Iā€™m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Sashiko mended jeans

Sashiko mended jeans

I bought some  sashiko thread from beyond measure at last year's woolly good gathering (almost a year ago!) and I've been looking for a project to use it on.

I bought these ripped jeans off Vinted, they are a 34 inch length and my plan was to chop them and use the offcuts to patch the holes. But it turns out that the Levi's 501 cut is not for me! Too low waisted.

Luckily it emerges that my husband has the same waist size as me, and has 34 inch legs, so I could pass them onto him instead. Obviously that meant I couldn't use the jeans own denim for the patching. Luckily I has some remnants of some heavy chambray kicking about, in a colour close enough to the jeans, so I used those. Probably better actually in terms of stitching through two layers of fabric

There were three holes and I tried out different sashiko stitches on them all - some crosses, some straight lines and some checks. The crosses are my favourite, and the checks didn't really work as the lines were too far apart to secure the fray-ey bits, I ended up adding an extra line in two places.

Overall I think these look great, much better on Dave than on me! I am thinking about what else I can embroider now
