End of year stashbuster project: Melilot Harald hats
A last bit of 2020 sewing! These are Harald hat from Melilot patterns. It’s a free pattern made available as part of an advent calendar type thing (I don’t want to link to it because the link is likely to go dead fairly soon and I don’t have the brainspace to go back and edit this post when it does, but for now you can find it on Melilot.no under the X-mas tab).
I have a lot of knitted hats, but the advantage of sewn ones is that you can chuck them in the washing machine every so often, which is handy cos I’ve been doing a lot of running and my hats always get sweaty. The pattern makes up super quick out of fairly small fabric scraps, so it’s a good stashbuster.
I made five hats, the brown sweatshirting and black jeresey with gold flecks for me, black jersey for the boys, and a yellow sweatshirting one which turned out too small for even Ellis to wear so I gave it to a friends toddler. There are three sizes, mini, midi and maxi and the mini is definitely more for nursery than school age kids. The jersey is more stretchy so Ellis is wearing the mini in these pictures, but it was too small for Milo. Dave didn’t want one, so I don’t know what the maxi is like.
One thing to note as well is that the thing you download is just the pattern, there are no instructions. It’s not massively complicated anyway, and I probably could have worked it out myself, but there is also a video on the melilotpatterns instagram that shows you how. It’s a bit annoying that you have to go to a different place to find it (and that there is nothing on the website that tells you to do so), but I guess it’s a freebie that might not be around for that long, so I can understand not investing time in making instructions.
Anyway, I like these hats, I wear mine every day for my run and it’s a good stashbuster to have!
