Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as Iā€™m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Peppermint Samford Set trousers

Peppermint Samford Set trousers

This make has been going for a long time, I was halfway through then my sewing machine broke and it took me almost a month to get back, which was most upsetting!

This is the Samford Set from the Peppermint Magazine pattern series. It's a loungewear set with a button up shirt, which I've been keen to try.

Obviously what you cannot see here is a button up shirt, because I am mathematically challenged, and ordered 3.3 instead of 4.3 metres. I literally only just worked this out that that is what happened I cut out the trousers and was then left with hardly any fabric, definitely not enough for a shirt with sleeves. I'll probably be able to get a shell top out of it, but that's about it. My mistake!

That being said, the trousers are massive, so you could definitely get them out of less than the 2.6 metres stated! I cut the size H according to my hip measurement (which is 43inches, the size chart has 42 for size G and 44 for size H), but it's very roomy all round, but particularly in length. I know I'm short, but I ended up cutting 20 cms off at the bottom, and I'm not *that* short. I think if I make this again I should definitely go down a size as well as shorten with abandon before cutting out.

I do like this pattern though, it has a true pyjama feel with the wide legs, particularly in this fabric. It's a really fun double gauze with a very subtle tie dye effect, very cool. I did find it pretty hard to cut out straight, some of the pieces are a bit wobbly and I ended up having to trim bits off as I was going along, but I think that's fine.

I didn't even look at the instructions for this, because elasticated waist trousers are elasticated waist trousers, and I've made so many of those I can basically go on autopilot. But all the pieces aligned nicely even with my dodgy cutting out

I actually wonder if this would work as daytime trousers in a more structured fabric. Whether I try that will depend on whether I can cut those pattern pieces down to the smaller size without reprinting the whole thing!
