Closet Core Patterns Elodie

This is my Christmas party dress, made in the nick of time before my final night out. I’ve been meaning to make this for a while, and finally bit the bullet when Minerva had this lovely lawn fabric in the Minerva Makers list. It’s kind of a summery print with the florals, so it’s a bit summer wedding, but I’m going with it. I’d planned to make the midi length but I missed that this fabric is narrow, so I had to do some major fudging to fit all the pattern pieces in even for the short length.

Pattern: Closet Core Patterns Elodie, long sleeve short length version

Size: 16 according to my bust measurement. I think the bodice is too big, so could definitely go down or even two sizes. I also missed that there is a D cup version of this pattern, the 14 in that had the bust measurement of the 16 in the B cup size, so that might have helped. If I make this again, I’ll definitely have to think carefully about what to do, although I don’t think the extra fabric in the bodice bothers me to the point of me not wearing it.

Fabric: An Art Gallery Fabrics poplin from Minerva. I think this would also be super nice in a slinkier fabric!

Adjustments: the skirt pieces on this are massive, and as the fabric is so narrow, I would have needed more length to cut them all. I managed to just about get them in by (1) cutting the back piece on the fold (2) taking width off the sides off the back piece. (3) taking width off both the sides and the middle of the front pieces (4) cutting it off grain. Its all worked out fine but it did almost break my brain trying to decide what to do

I also added in seam pockets (the pattern had optional patch ones) but I put them too low, I can put my hands in them but only just about!
