Ramie Pietra pants
My pair of Pietra pants broke recently. They are now mended, but it made me realise I like them, so I decided to make another pair. I’ve had this fabric for a while and it was set aside for another pair of Xanelea but I decided to go for the Pietras instead
I made the tapered version before but they really are not tapered at all. I understand this is a common problem in larger sizes. I ended up quite a lot of taper (see below) after taking advice from plurabellchen makes on instagram, who is plus sized and has made lots of these. There’s quite a lot to think about because they have the front seam. I tried pinning from both the central seam and the outside seam and they both distort the straight line a bit, but one wasn’t obvious worse than the other. I decided to take out of the side seam as that seemed easier for me brain.
Anyway, details!
Pattern: Closet core Patterns Pietra pants
Size: 16 I think?
Fabric: this is a ramie from Fabworks, which I’ve used before for tops. It is quite structured and maybe a bit stiffer than I’d like but hopefully it will soften over time.
Adjustments: I shortened the crotch previously, can’t remember how much. Full seat adjustment like I always do. The new thing for this version was that I tapered the leg pieces by 2cm on both side seams (so 4cms on each leg) which feels quite dramatic but I’m happy with.
I think if I make another pair I will either lengthen or shorten these. I'm quite short so not they just look like a normal length that’s too short rather than a cropped length. I may end up shortening this pair actually.
The other future alteration this could do with is to lengthen the back pieces at the waist to bring them up to the same heigh as the front. At the moment there’s a tiny bit of a high low effect, although its actually not as noticeable as i thought when I was taking pictures. Plus I generally wear tops that are long enough to cover that up, so it doesn’t bother me, but definitely something worth sorting out.
