Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

My first make of 2020!

My first make of 2020!

My first (and only so far, sadly) bit of sewing this year is this cushion cover. Our previous cushion covers were made from ikea fabric by Dave, many many years ago. I’d been meaning to replace the onbe we ad in the living room for a while, then over Christmas finally gave up the ghost completely, with two massive holes, so it became a priortity to replace it.

I rummaged around my storage boxes and was delighted to find this piece of lino printed fabric I made with Jenni Douglas designs a couple (few?) years ago. Just the perfect size for a cushion! For the back I used some blue cord from my first roberts collection dress (sadly this blog post did not make it over from the old blog). I initially planned on unpicking the zip from the old cushion cover, but I’m a bit embarrassed to admit I was too lazy so I used a stash zip, which is much much shorter. This was not a brilliant idea, I could not get the whole cushion in and burst a seam trying. Dave was quite scathing that I ever thought this might work! But I just sewed the broken seam together from the outside and it’s really not that visible.

A wee note on the pictures - that sideboard is not usually that tidy, I had to clear a huge amount of random crap off it before taking the pictures. And then the boys were getting involved in the pictures, the monkeys! But it’s nice to see what our living room would look like it we were tidy!
