Lengthened ES Georgia Tee
When I picked this Minerva Exclusive satin off the Minerva Makers list, I wanted to make something fairly simple with it, because I don't sew with slinky fabrics very much. I picked the Elizabeth Suzann Georgia dress, I've made the top version loads of times but not the dress.
Alas, I had forgotten that I have very wide hips and a big bum and I really would have needed to widen what is basically a straight shape. So when I made the dress it was very tight round the bottom, uncomfortably so. So I had to chop it into a top - slightly longer than the standard Georgia top length, but definitely a top.
I actually really like it, it has definite 'jeans and a nice top' going out vibes, and since the fabric is ever so slightly see through I could only have worn the dress with leggings under. But for the top I think it's ok without something under it. The satin is quite light and feels lovely so nice to have it directly on the skin.
I'm glad I kept it simple pattern wise, I did find it quite hard going with the slinkiness. I decided to finish the neckline with self fabric, rather than pre-made bias binding, which would have been a bit too heavy maybe. It was so fiddly as it was uneven wideness because im rubbish at cutting out at the best of times, even without the slinkiness, and the satin got pressed out of shape easily, so it isn't my neatest work. The other seams I French seamed, and I also sewed the French seams down for extra neatness. I’m happy with that aspect of it.
I do hope to make a dress length Georgia at some point though!
