LB Pullover in orange seersucker
The LB Pullover is one of those pattern. that some of the online sewing community have made over and over again, its even on the Sew Scottish bingo card. But I’d never made it, until now!
Writing this undera headings, because I find that is the best way to make sure I’ve covered all the relevant info
Pattern: Paper Theory LB Pullover “a quick and easy to sew jumper with full length sleeves, designed to be made in a low stretch fabric or a woven'“. There are two neck options, this turtle neck and a normal crew neck, I made the turtle neck.
Apart from the turtle neck, this is a dartless boxy shape and as such quite similar to the Tessuto Athina and the Wiksten shift which I also both like. But with the turtle neck, this feels more of a jumper than a top.
Size: I made the 16 according to my measurements. I considered sizing down, but I’m glad I didn’t.
Fabric: This is some polycotton seersucker I bought in a destash from my friend Sew Do it Emma. I had expected to be 100% cotton and had planned to mix it with some blue seersucker I have some scraps left of, but the two fabrics felt quite different so I decided to just stick with this. I generally try to avoid polyester, and i wasn’t sure how this would feel to wear, and I’m still not, but so far so good. It doesn’t make me feel sweaty, which was my main concern.
Instructions: I can’t say I paid all too much attention to these, but they seem fine. I had planned to French seam everything, a bit challenging as the seam allowances are 1cm, and in the end I chickened out doing it on the neckline. And then I sewed the first pass of the side seams the wrong way round, didn’t notice until after I’d trimmed the seam back, and the fabric is quite frayey, so I ldecided not to unpick but to sew it normally and overlock the adges
Verdict: I like this, more than I thought I would. if that sounds like damning with faint praise, it isn’t supposed to, I just wasn’t sure about the turtle neck, but folded over like that it looks good, I think. The one thing that is a bit odd about this is that it looks so jumpery, even though the fabric is so light. But its autumn just now, so that feels appropriate.
Will I make again: Yes, I plan to make it in a knit fabric to see how it differs, and I have some linen scraps I want to patchwork together, and I think I might for for this pattern, but with the crew neck.
