DIY Daisy Maya dress
I've been keen for a while to try out another zero waste pattern after I made the Cris Woods envelope dress a while back, and when I stumbled across the DIY Daisy Maya dress (a free pattern!) and decided to bump it up my list spontaneously. I was even able to use stash fabric so this qualifies for #sewfrugal
Pattern: DIY Daisy Maya dress, free on her website
Fabric: 2.1 metres of this liberty tana lawn. Which is 1.36m wide. The pattern instructions are for a maxi dress (3m I think), this is probably the least you could get away with. I have some pieces that are too short.
I actually have no recollection of what I had planned to make with this, I've had it for ages, and it's not really my colours. I'm still not 100% sold on all that soft pink tbh.
Size: there aren't really sizes, as you are guided by the fabric, but shoe does give dimensions for the pieces, and I want for the 14. It meant I actually made the bodice slightly narrower than half the fabric width, so not 100% zero waste. Not sure that was strictly necessary. I guess you could use that piece for a neck facing - I finished with bias binding
Instructions: they are so simple they fit into a til too video! I found them slightly counterintuitive as you gather and attach the sleeves and skirt pieces before you sew together the side seams.
I likes it though, it's much easier to gather evenly on a flat surface!
Would I make again: Yes! I actually want to play around with this a bit and see if I can add darts and/or gather the sleeves at the cuff. Maybe as a top
