Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as Iā€™m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Electric Blue Style Arc Bob Pants

Electric Blue Style Arc Bob Pants

I already have three pairs of bobs, and that is a lot of repetition even for me, but I wear three of them all the time (the third is African wax and more for summer) I think they are actually my most worn items, so when this linen came up in the Minerva list I decided to jump on it and make another pair.

Details below!

Pattern: Style Arc Bob pants

Size: 16

Adjustments: I shorted these when I first made them, then lengthened them again for my second pair. I would have preferred the longer length to be honest, but I ordered exactly as much fabric as the pattern said so I couldn't.

I also did a two inch full seat adjustment as usual.

Looking at these photos now, I'm wondering if shortening the rise slightly might have been a good idea. Or making the elastic tighter so it more definitely sits on the natural waist

Fabric: this is a medium weight linen. It's slightly lighter than the linen I used for my other pair and I originally thought it might be a wee bit see through but the weave is dense and it isn't. It comes in lots of colours and I think it would work well for a dress too. It looks the same on both sides which is a blessing and a curse when you're trying to avoid sewing tow identical legs, but I marked what I decided was the right side so it was fine.

I ordered 1.8 metres like the pattern said and I don't know what I did wrong but it wouldn't fit in and I had to cut one of the back legs against greIn. It doesn't matter for this fabric, I can't even now tell which leg that was, but could for other fabric. 2 metres would have done it. Less waste this way I suppose!

Instructions: It'd been ages since I last made these, and I'd forgotten how random the instructions are. I don't even understand what they want you to do with the pockets, and for the waist band they would have you insert the elastic before you sew it onto the trousers. I'm sure that way madness lies. Anyway, I've made enough trousers now to be able to sew them without instructions.

I also topstitched the elastic to stop it twisting which it was already starting to do

Verdict: I predict I will wear these lots!
