Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Zadie jumpsuit version 3: autumnal edition

Zadie jumpsuit version 3: autumnal edition

I finally finished my third Zadie jumpsuit! Sewing instgram was in Zadie fever over the summer, the speed at which people are making them seems to have slowed down a bit, but I’m keeping going!

I hadn’t necessarily planned on making a third, but I’m on the blogger list for Minerva Fabrics (which means I got the fabric for free in exchange for making something with it and blogging about it), and they had this lovely viscose cotton shirting on their list, and sparked an idea in my head - wouldn’t it be nice to have one that is less going outy and more something you could wear to work? I mentioned I’m not keen on the fabric for my first one, but I really liked having one with sleeves, so my plan was to make this and then donate the blue one

The fabric is great, because of the viscose content it has a nice drape, and the tiny dots (which I know you can’t really see in any of the photos, but hopefully a little bit in the above) give it a a nice texture.

This is very similar to the previous versions, a size 14 top and 16 bottom. I repeated the slight change in attaching the belt buts and did the same rise adjustment of taking and inch and a half out as in my second one, and additionally narrowed the legs by 2 cms on both sides - so 4 cms altogether. It probably doesn’t make a massive difference. I wasn’t sure about how much to narrow them by, so only did this after I’d sewn it all together, which was a bit faffy and why I didn’t go further. But it feels slightly less massive which is all I was after really.

I also shortened the legs (I can’t remember exactly how much - 15 cms maybe) to make it properly ankle length. The previous version was almost full length because I am quite short, so I thought it would be good to make it clearer than it was supposed to be shorter.

I’ll have to figure out how to wear this now that autumn and winter is coming up though and bare ankles are not really that feasible, but I’m sure I’ll manage. I’m wearing it to work tomorrow and I am presenting at a conference at the beginning of November so I think I’ll wear it then because this is a good fashionable/professional hybrid, and if anyone asks I can go ‘I made it!’ which is always fun!
