Zadie jumpsuit in electric blue linen
My first Zadie jumpsuit – but not my last. This pattern by paper theory has taken the sewing internet by storm – I’ve never seen anything like it! Well deserved as well! There are circa 50 million jumpsuits on the hashtag on Instagram and they all look amazing. The pattern is designed to require minimal fitting and suits pretty much all body types. It’s just fabulous, it really is.
I jumped on the bandwagon a bit late, since I’ve never owned a jumpsuit before on account of the going to the toilet issue. I drink a lot, and I pee a lot, so it’s not the most practical. And that part of it definitely is a faff, but it’s outweighed by wearing clothes that manage to both be casual and comfortable, and dressed up at the same time.
This version is actually a wearable toile. I used a linen mix fabrics from Fabworks. Unfortunately it wasn’t what I hoped for. It’s 85% linen, 15% polyester, which I thought would be a low enough percentage to be fine, but it does feel plasticky, it reminds me of those paper feel plastic tablecloths you get for outdoor parties. It’s a real shame, I really tried to like it, but I just don’t. I love the colour and the subtle checks, and if I was only judging it on the photo I would say I was mad. So many people that have seen it complimented me, including loads of people who don’t know I sew. But I wore this for about 4 hours for a baby shower and when I got home I got changed pretty much straight away.
I debated a long time what size to make. My measurements put me into a size 14 top and 16 bottom. Lots of people seem to have made up to two sizes down from their measurements, but I had a look at the finished garment measurements and decided to stay with those sizes. I think it’s pretty spot on! The legs are very wide, but I need the space around the bum. Back photo included to prove this! I guess if I was making a going out version I might go down to a 12/14, but I like things loose. The crotch is also pretty low, I might try and shorten it for next time, but I might not. I would also either lengthen the legs by about 5cms, or shorten them by ten.
Anyway, I’ve ordered fabric for a second, a tencel from merchant and mills for a slinkier version and have already decided on fabric for number three, just waiting until I’ve done number 2, I’m making sure I don’t accumulate a stash.
