Friday Pattern Company Davenport Dress Hacked into a top
My plan for this fabric had been to make an In The Folds Collins top, but after I made the Davenport dress I was so enamoured with the construction I ditched that plan and decided to hack it into a top.
Pattern: Friday Pattern Company Davenport dress
Size: XL
Fabric: This is a lovely linen cotton blend from Minerva, the lighter side of medium weight. The stripes are more subtle than I at first expected (my plan for the Collins had been to do the multidirectional thing, I still have that here a little bit with the front yoke pieces, but as I said, subtle)
Adjustments: This is the top of the dress, with the bodice pieces lengthened by 15cms. Probably could have done with an extra 5cms. Other than that I just omitted the shoulder flutter piece.
Challenges: even though I had made the dress bit that long ago, I had to follow the instructions closely. I really struggled with the burrito construction this time for some reason, maybe because the fabric doesn't have a right and wrong side, but I got there eventually!
Next time: I wonder if this might be fun with some kind of flutter thing on the hem? Will have to work out how to do that!
