Friday Pattern Company Davenport Dress
This dress has been a long time in the making, I can't say I particularly enjoyed making it. A combination of a different fabric type and a much more involved construction (so many pieces) made me go into a sewing huff for a while. But I eventually finished it and it was 100% worth it
Pattern: Friday Pattern Company Davenport
Size: XL. I'm pretty sure I made an L in the Wildergown (the only other FPC pattern I've made before) and I think that would have been fine as well, but I went with my measurements on the size chart. Trying to overcome residual vanity sizing tendencies!
Fabric: This is a viscose, which I don't usually sew with, I prefer stable cottons, linens and African wax, but I was persuaded by the print. It's part of the Minerva Exclusive range of prints, and there are lots of good ones! There is a reason I don't usually sew with viscose though, I found it impossible to cut out because it's so slinky, and then I got annoyed at none of the pieces properly aligning. That was the main reason for my frustration. It does feel lovely when it's on though, and it's a really good weight, so it's worth struggling through!
Instructions: They are super detailed and clear, which is needed as the construction is not that straightforward. There are a lot of pieces and at one point I missed out a page of instructions and got completely lost. But now I know how it works it'll hopefully be easier!
Future plans: I really want to make another version without the sleeves and a larger flutter, in a more stable fabric
