Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Dubrovnik holiday part 4: Lokrum island

Dubrovnik holiday part 4: Lokrum island

The other thing we did while on holiday in Dubrovnik was get the ferry to Lokrum Island, an island in Dubrovnik bay. It’s just a ten minute ferry ride and the ferry from the old town harbour goes every half hour during the day. There are some other ferries to Islands further away, but public ferries don’t go very often and private tours are £££ plus you have a tour guide and other people there the whole time, which isn’t our cup of tea.

The island is a forest nature reserve, and only has the one harbour and you can’t stay overnight. All the trees provide shade so it’s a bit cooler, so it’s a great place to go for a walk.

Everything is arranged so you can see all the sights in one big loop. There are three swimming places, an old monastery with some formal gardens (and a small Game of Thrones exhibition and a repro iron throne which I am unbothered about) and a fort at the top of the hill with great views over Dubrovnik. There’s a few different cafes by the harbour and by one of the beaches/swimming places.

It’s not a massively long walk, but if you go swimming and have food you can easily stay there for a whole day. I think we got the boat out at 9.30/10 and back at 4.

And lots and lots of peacocks! They had peachicks as well, so cute.

The last bit to the fort on top of the holls was paved, and steep, and extremely hot!
