Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Dubrovnik Holiday Part 3: Food and drink

Part 3: Food! First Dave then me had upset stomachs at the start, so we didn’t eat out as much as planned and then we did a bit of buying bread and cheese in the supermarket too. But here’s some places we went to and liked.

  • Seafood Restaurant at Saint Jakob’s beach. A nice terrace overlooking the beach and very nice. I had seafood risotto, Ellis had seafood spaghetti, and Dave had prawns in Bursara sauce (main picture of this blog post) which were so nice we’ve since made them at home. Milo had chicken, the silly

  • Burger House Republic for the Octopus burger. This is a fast food type place (bar stools and high tables) in the Old Town but it was really nice food. There is another, fanicer restarant specialising in Octopus burgers, what comes up when you google ‘octopus burger dubrovnik’ but I have no further intel.

The octopus bruger. They also have one that is basically calamari in a roll

Fish Bar El Pulpo in Lapad. Another very tasty seafood place with a nice internal courtyard, in the tourist resorty area of Lapad, but off the main strip with all the bars and restraurants. We went there on the last night and I finally got the grilled octopus I’d been wanting all along

For some meat eater representation, this was the sausage stew which was also nice

  • Kiosk. This is an outdoor streetfood type place in a shipping container selling mainly poke bowls, and also a long cocktail list. The seating is bar stools and they played a disco soundtrack, so I definitely got the feel it turns into a cocktail bar later. Its in quite a funny area, in a very small park between a bit made up entirely of office buildiungs and big supermarkets, and Gruz harbour, so away from the centre. This one definitely felt more like it was aimed more at locals than some of the other places.

And the coffee places

  • Cogito Coffee. The one and only speciality coffee/coffee roaster, we went back a few time. The first time took forever to find because of the streets are so tiny and close together that google maps kept telling us we were in the wrong place. It’s in a little arch next to a courtyard where lots of cats live. This is a weird thing, people put out cat food for the wild/stray cats. Just dump a packet of wet food out for them. I suppose it’s good they are looked after but it does seem a bit odd. Anyway, the coffee is great, we brought some beans home too and they’ve been great so far

  • ·Coffee Break,. You would not think it is what it is. It’s a bit away from the Old Town, inside the University, the uni café basically, but has lots of healthy food like overnight oats and various supplemented smoothies and acia bowls, and also the coffee was really good. Also air conditioned if you need a break from the heat.

Coffee break

Kawa. Not really a cafe, but does serve coffee and has a table to sit down. Just cold brew while we were there, becuase their (very fancy) machine was broken, but a more standard speciality range usually I think. A shop selling craft beers and clothes, furniture and knick knacks from contemporary makers
