Assembly Line Apron dress in chartreuse needlecord
This is the Assembly Line Apron dress. I've liked this pattern for a long time, but unusually for me I actually picked the fabric first and matched the pattern to it.
This needle cord from the Minerva Core range jumped out at me, I really liked this ochre colour (it’s called chartreuse but in my mind that’s greener?). I'm in a big yellow phase at the moment but this is a bit less full on and versatile than my usual mustard.
This dress took a really long time to make. The instructions are very detailed, and everything is fully and properly finished. I also misread the instructions so had to do a lot of unpicking on the pocket, plus it took me ages to understand the pleating in the back. I also once again had problems with the buttonholes. There are three (two right on top of each other), the machine managed one perfectly, one was fine but looked less neat, then I cleaned out the fluff and somehow that made it worse and it went wrong and tried to make it half the size, so I had to do it manually.
It turned out the pleating and buttons wasn't fully necessary, I can get this off and on without undoing the buttons at all. I like the button detail from an aesthetic point of view though, and I had good fun picking the buttons from my humungous button stash.
One thing to note is that unlike many dungaree type things, you fully sew on the shoulder straps, so you have to make a decision on how high/low you want the bib to be, which i found really hard. I am wondering if I maybe could have gone ever so slightly higher, the button bit at the back sits a tiny bit lower on the bum than I would ideally like, although not to the point where I would want to change it.
Possibly its just that size wise I think this is pretty generous. My measurements put me fully in the size L but I think the M would be fine, actually. I don't mind it being a bit loose though, and I will definitely wear it lots!
Very happy with this!
