Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as Iā€™m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

Another pieced wiksten shift top. I'm on a roll! This one used to be a sequence dress, but there were so many mistakes in it, and it was a bit too small, and then one of the ties came off and I couldn't be bothered to fix it. So I thought I might as well make it into something else.

The front piece is from the dress skirt, so the seam in the front is from that, the back is pieced out of lots and lots of different pieces. One of the sleeve pieces is also pieced. You can't really tell though, which is a big disappointing really, I want my fabric reuse to be more obvious!

One thing I have to say though is that I do not enjoy sewing with this fabric. It's so slinky, and the weave is pretty loose, so my cutting (which is never great) was all over the place and it was also not great to press. But I did it, and it does feel nice to wear, and looks great. I still have a bit of the fabric left in pieced pieces and I'll hold onto it but I don't think I'll be joining the army of Atelier Brunette devotees.
