Vogue 9237 hack with flutter sleeves
Quite likely the last sewing project of the year is this Vogue 9237 hack. I intended to make it for my work night out but didn't get it together in time, so only finished it just before Christmas in time for a school mums night out. I love it!
Pattern: Very Easy Vogue 9237
Fabric: some African wax I got given by my friend Helen. Not sure how much, but I think probably something like 2.5 metres
Size: L
Adjustments: I omitted the sleeves, and instead attached some flutters, loosely based on the piece from the Davenport dress, but much bigger. Extra sticky outy in the African wax.
The armholes are finished with bias binding and I had a bit of an adventure with that. When I first did it, I managed to finish the two sides in different ways so that on one side a bit of the flutter fabric was caught in the binding, making it smaller. I'm not sure it was visible, and it was only 1cm, but I knew it was there, and I knew that it would bother me forever, so I ended up unpicking and redoing.
Here is the shoulder before. I'm not even 100% sure what I did tbh, but the binding stitching is not visible on the outside of the dress at all, it stuck out into the inside.
Here it is redone, binding now attached to the bodice, see the line, and the flutter at its full length.
Apart from that it was all very straightforward. I really love the shape of this dress, I hope to wear it a lot in the summer!
