Papercut Patterns Luna Jacket
I'm on a bit of a mission recently to sew through my stash, and that includes the pattern stash, including this Papercut Patterns Luna jacket. This is something I've had printed out for absolute ages, since back when it was called the Kochi even. I'm glad I finally got it out, I'm really happy with it, and ended up making two in short succession.
This is billed as a jacket, but I think I will wear it more like a blouse. It has three options of wearing it, one open, one with the ties at the front tied together, and one the wrap I've got here. To be honest, the second one feels a bit pointless, and if you primarily wanted to wear it open, there is a lot of fabric, because the front has to be long enough to also be able to wrap, so you would be better with something like the Wiksten Unfolding jacket (previously Haori). The Luna is shorter I guess and has the side slits, although they really only come into their own when worn as a wrap.
Anyway, I am wearing it as a wrap and I like it a lot!
Pattern: Papercut Patterns Luna jacket (previously Kochi)
View: Variation 1 which is unlined and has the ties.
Size: 6. My measurements are between the 5 and the 6, but in the Sequence dress I made from the same company previously, I found that it runs slightly small, so I went for the 6 and that was the right decision.
Fabric: the red one is a cotton chambray I bought in a destash ages ago, can't remember who from! The blue one is a lightweight (and slightly see through) linen mix, from a free fabric table at a recent sewing day we had with my sewing friends.
Alterations: No size adjustments, but I did omit some bits the second time around.
For the first one I made, the pink one, I put on all the ties and both pockets, but I does leave you with quite a few random bits hanging around, so for the second version (the blue one) I only put the pocket on the side that wraps to the front, and the ties only either inside or outside the seam, as needed to wrap it in that way. I don't think I will wear thios as an open jacket.
Instructions: they are good, but for both of mine, the bottom of the front band is not particularly tidy. On the red one, which I made at the sewing day, I was pretty tired by the time I got to this step, and was trying to do it quickly as people were packing away around me, so I think I might not have actually followed the instructions properly. But I read them carefully the second time, and I still didn't manage to get the neckband to sit straight with the bottom hem. I need to check out how the wiksten unfolding does it, because I don't remember having this problem with that and the neck band/hem situation is basically the same.
Wearability: I really like this! Don't know what's taken me so long! I'm planning on making a third one with some Nani Iro double gauze, and using the selvedge as the hem
