Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as Iā€™m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

I had a week off to myself before Christmas and this is one of the things I sewed. It's the Roberts collection top (View D). It my took me all day as all the inner seams are beautifully finished with faux felled seams.

Unfortunately I really don't like the finished result, I think it looks like scrubs. To be honest, this is not entirely unpredictable, it's a boxy dartless top so quite why I thought that would work I don't really know. Maybe in a slinkier fabric (which is what is recommended) it might be ok but in this cotton (from the John Lewis anniversary) it does not. At least I didn't pay for the fabric, and only had a meter of it so there's not that much else I could have done with it.

I do like the back. You can't see it here very well, but there are some panels that would be pretty fun in different fabrics. I guess this pattern would be rescuable if I added darts but I don't think I can be bothered really.

And the other good thing is that I am now abandoning my (very vague anyway) plan to make the jumpsuit from the Roberts collection, which has that as the top.

I'm keeping this in my wardrobe until the summer to see if that changes my opinion of it, but I would be surprised!
