In the Folds Rushcutter dress in colour blocked linen
After the envelope dress, I moved onto my lockdown sewing plans consisting of patterns I've already made, starting with this, an In the Folds Rushcutter. I have three of these already, and when asked for my favourite pattern, I often choose this one, although it's been years since I made it. Well, having made it again, I will continue to say that, cos it's just brilliant. The instructions are excellent and the shaping with the big curve at the front is so clever. And it's a good level of oversizedness, while still being fitted at the shoulders.
For fabric I chose some enzyme dyed linen from First For Fabrics that comes in tons of colours. I got the dark red and the coral for separate dresses, and only decided afterwards to mix them up. I'm so happy with the colour blocking mix though, these go well together.
I made a size E for this, no modifications to the fit. I did finish the bottom hem with bias binding rather than a facing, as I've also done on two of my previous ones. The bias binding was home made, left over from my Flynn jacket, and contrasts nicely with the red. I also french seamed all of the seams, except the back one that has the zip, and I'm delighted with how tidy it looks inside!
