Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

African Wax Wiksten Haori jacket

African Wax Wiksten Haori jacket

My first actual bit of lockdown sewing! This is the Wiksten Haori jacket in an African wax fabric. I’ve been meaning to make this for a while, then a few of my Sew Scottish pals made it and that was the thing I needed to push it up the list. I’d planned on using another wax fabric, but had forgotten how narrow that is so the piece I had in mind wasn’t big enough. Luckily I had impulse bought 3m of this green and purple stuff from Edinburgh Fabrics a while back when it was on offer. For the lining I used two separate pieces of random lining stuff I has in my stash, both from other people’s destash.

I made the size L medium length, and its pretty roomy as you can see. I like oversized so I’m cool with that, though I’m also planning a size medium in the shorter length in a drapier fabric (most likely the heavier tencel from Merchant and Mills if they ever open their website again) to use as a suit type jacket I can wear under things. The only problem is we don’t have a printer at home, so I think I’ll stick to remaking patterns I’ve already made in the size I made them for the time being. Depending on how long this situation goes on for, I might put a Netprinter order through.

I think that’s all there is to say about this! Oh, I did make the collar out of the main fabric not the lining, as most people do I think.

I had to explain myself to two sets of neighbouts to take these pictures outside our front door (with the tripod). Was worth it though for better light and less clutter than inside the living room.

You can just about see the lining here. The sleeves are lined in something else.

I thought long about the pattern placement of this circle and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I didn’t do anything about the placement of the other pieces, I just went with it
