Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mainly post about my sewing projects, as I’m building a colourful and comfortable everyday wardrobe suitable for a working mum of primary school children. I really love African wax fabric, so that features heavily. I also occassionally post about family life in Edinburgh and travel. Hope you have a nice stay!

A black Seamwork Tacara

A black Seamwork Tacara

Getting towards my final makes of 2019… I actually cut this Seamwork Tacara out in January (after I made a yellow sweatshirt one at the very end of 2018), but then my fear of sewing jerseys overcome me and I left it to sit there for the whole year. I finally picked it up again in November, and I’m glad I waited, because since I got my new machine, which has an overlocker stitch, sewing knits is SO much easier and tidier. I haven’t got a close up picture, but the neckband is properly attached and looks professional(ish)

The fabric is a lovely jersey I bought in fancy silks in Birmingham three (?) years ago on a sewing blogger meet up. I’m guessing its cotton and its a nice weight.

This is pretty straightforward so came together quickly, although I did have some trouble with the pockets this time. I had you attach the pocket bags to the seams only in the middle bit that shows, and then clip the seam allowance and push it over in some way. I can’t really remember what exactly it was, but I followed those instructions and ended up with the pockets slightly bunching out so unpicked and sewed the whole pocket onto the side seam as you usually would abnd everything was fine. I don’t remember this problem from before, so I suspect I didn’t actually follow the instructions last time, and just went for a standard way. That’s definitely what I’m doing next time.

I think I will make another one at some point, its such a good pattern.

Linking to the other Tacara post, I am noting that the standards of my hair and make up has declined a lot, clearly I can’t be bothered to straighten my hair or put on lipstick any more! Or turn the necklace the right way round…

Finishing off with outerwear, this is the Pech und Schwefel Bordeaux coat. I’m still annoyed about the sizing, but I’ve actually worn this loads. The coating is so soft!
