Summery floral Homer and Howell's Cissy dress
The Cissy dress has been on my to make list for a LONG time, I finally got round to making it, and I love it!
AD - the pattern and fabric for this project were gifted
Pattern: Homer and Howells Cissy (I was sent a PR copy of this pattern ages ago)
Fabric: This is an Art Gallery poplin, in the best shade of yellow, perfect for summer. I'm not usually a flowers kind of person, but this really works for me! Such a happy colour and print. (The fabric was gifted by Minerva in exchange for a post on their website)
Size: I cut a size 16 according to my measurements, and I'm still not quite sure if that's the right size.
Adjustments: It's quite a loose fitting style and half way through, before I'd attached the sleeves, I had a bit of a wobbly that it was way too big, shoulders in particular. I ended up taking out an extra half a cm of the sleeve head. I was too scared to take out more and there wasn't much I could do without recutting the whole thing.
In the end it feels completely fine, and looks good. I am planning another and I'll definitely do a proper narrow shoulder adjustment for that though. It probably wouldn't do any harm to do a 14 with an FBA either, but I'm not sure I can be bothered really, since that would mean reprinting the pattern.
Another adjustment I did was the pattern usually has a zip at the back, but I'd heard that it's easy to omit it and cut the back on the fold instead. Of course I did that if I can avoid faffing about with a zip, I will. I didn’t take out any width in the back to account for the seam allowance if it had made it with a zip, so I’ll do that next time.
I really love this dress, and I have some chambray-ey cross weave bookmarked for another soon!
